(East Patchogue)- Commuters from Holbrook to Bellport faced big delays on Thursday morning after a serious crash closed the eastbound travel lanes on Sunrise Highway between Route 112 and Hospital Road. At times during the morning commute, drivers were stuck in bumper to bumper delays in both directions for up to three miles. Suffolk County police say a hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian happened around 6am on February 4th. Police say an adult male was either standing or walking near the entrance ramp to Sunrise Highway, from the eastbound service road, just east of Hospital Road when he was struck. The vehicle involved in the accident fled the scene. No description of the vehicle has been given. The male victim suffered fatal injuries. The investigation is ongoing. At the time of this article, the roadway remains closed. Police are asking anyone with information to call Suffolk County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
