(East Farmingdale, NY)- Crews worked throughout the day on Thursday and overnight into Friday morning trying to clear miles upon miles of Long Island roads. With temperatures below freezing overnight, keeping the roads safe, was an ongoing battle. State maintained roadways like the Long Island Expressway, Northern State Parkway and Southern State Parkway were down to the blacktop by morning on Friday. Many back roads in Suffolk County, like the one pictured in Lake Grove, were a thick sheet of ice on Friday morning, with a thin coat of sand. State Police on Friday around 7am, said drivers called them and reported that Ocean Parkway was also “a sheet of ice”, by the Robert Moses Causeway. Motorists are encouraged to drive with caution as temperatures will remain around the freezing mark all day and anything that might melt from salt or traffic, could refreeze again on Friday night.
