Crossing guard assaulted outside Hewlett Elementary school

A Nassau County Police crossing guard was assaulted outside of Hewlett Elementary school Thursday morning.
The victim was covering her crossing assignment for the school when the suspect approached her and started yelling and threw several pieces of ice at her, injuring her leg. A medic treated the victim at the scene. The suspect fled on foot and was arrested several blocks away without incident.
