Suffolk Police say a 62-year-old Babylon woman jumped into the Connetquot River to rescue her dog early Sunday morning has died in an apparent drowning.
Officials say the victim who was staying on a houseboat jumped into the water at about 1:30 a.m. to save her dog who had leapt into the water. Her body was found hours later and was pulled from the water and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The dog was rescued and taken to a local veterinarian. The investigation is ongoing.
