Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder says David Clements who was fatally shot by police Friday night in Massapequa ran at the officers with a loaded weapon.
The incident happened outside a home around 8:40 p.m. A neighbor called police after Clements displayed a firearm to them and was acting erratically.
At one point Clements came out of the house with a loaded gun and ran toward the responding police officers.
Ryder said Clements had a history of mental illness and all responding officers were wearing body cameras and the videos will be reviewed by the state attorney general.
