(East Farmingdale, NY)- President Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden are still fighting it out over a handful of battleground states. It’s still too early to call Michigan and Pennsylvania but Joe Biden has won Wisconsin, securing the state’s 10 electoral votes. Trump’s campaign has requested a recount for Wisconsin and says it’s suing Pennsylvania over poll watchers. Biden’s Wisconsin victory bumps him up to 248 electoral votes, while Trump has 214. It takes 270 to win the presidency.
Meanwhile, here on Long Island like in many places in around the country votes are still being counted.
According to the Associated Press, Congressman Lee Zeldin of the 1st Congressional District still maintains a sizable lead over challenger Nancy Goroff., at this time Zeldin is still predicted to win. Republican Andrew Garbarino maintains a sizable lead over challenger Jackie Gordon for the 2nd Congressional District. Newsday says the race in the 3rd Congressional District is still very close against incumbent Democrat Tom Suozzi and Republican challenger George Santos. In the 4th district, 100% of the votes are in and Congresswoman Kathleen Rice has been elected to serve another term.
The race for New York State Senate is also still being decided. According to Newsday, Republican Alexis Weik has taken the 3rd Senate District outing incumbent Monica Martinez. Republican Dennis Duanne Sr. has taken the 6th Senate District from incumbent Kevin Thomas and in the 7th district, Democrat Anna Kaplan has won reelection. In the 9th, Todd Kaminsky has also been re-elected.
