Suffolk County Police arrested a man for a domestic dispute in Brentwood on Friday. During the arrest, the man was injured during a police-involved shooting when his dog charged at officers. Third Precinct patrol officers responded to a domestic incident at a residence on Claywood Drive at approximately 4:40 p.m. on August 14. When a man involved in the dispute was being placed under arrest at approximately 5:30 p.m., his dog charged at the arresting officer. The officer fired his gun at the dog and inadvertently shot the dog’s owner in the hand. The man was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore with non-life-threatening injuries. The dog died of a gunshot wound and the officer was uninjured. The man was charged with Criminal Contempt 1st Degree in connection to the domestic incident. He is currently being treated at the hospital and is scheduled to be arraigned at a later date. Homicide Squad detectives are investigating.
